A very long image ...
These modes enable to take images in a different ratio (larger than 3:2). The panorama is a wide shot — it works by panning the tablet across a scene. The Camera app then stitches together several images to build the panorama.
Panoramic images offer a ratio of 5:1 (or similar). Here are two images, taken (almost) from the same place: You see the panorama (ratio 1:3,2) and a standard image (ratio 2:3)

How to make a panorama?
After you switched on the panorama mode you have to move the camera /smartphone as equal as possible in a circle. During this movement the camera takes a lot of images which are stitched together by the camera in-built software.
Problem: If there are people moving during the image is taking, they will not be complete in the image but appear as cut off ghosted persons.
