Description: “Whatever Architecture had to say , said it here”, is what the famous French architect Le Corbusier said, when he visited Paraportiani. Dating back to 1400s, Paraportiani, is an architectural complex of five churches. Its name literally means “Our lady of the side gate”, as its entrance was found in the side of the entrance to the Kastro(castle) area. The passage of time and chance , have contributed to the formation of the external morphology , creating through deterioration and damage , a unique aesthetic whole. Being a perfect example of folk Cycladic architecture, is classified as a national monument.
